Following initial medical and psychiatric training in Glasgow, Paul studied neuroscience in Chicago, before completing his training as a psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist at the Maudsley Hospital in London.
Paul is an experienced psychiatrist. He has considerable knowledge in the treatment of a range of psychiatric conditions, including bipolar disorder (I and II), borderline PD, cyclothymia, depression, psychosis, ADHD, anxiety, substance dependence and schizophrenia.
His previous posts as an NHS psychiatrist have included three years full-time in addictions, and posts in new-onset as well as treatment-resistant major mental disorders. He previously worked as a consultant at the renowned National Psychosis Unit in South London.
As an academic psychiatrist, Paul is recognised as an international expert in the relationship between cannabis and major mental illness. His research group achieved success with the promising molecule cannabidiol.
Paul has expertise in novel pharmacotherapies including esketamine, ketamine, 5-MeO-DMT and methylone.
